Archives for January 2017
A little last minute light reading… (find the book here)
Below are four phases of a buyer’s journey that I will chat about over the course of the next four Monday mornings: (highlighted in yellow on the left side of the image below)
- Decisions and Pre-Approval
- Offers and Negotiation
- Financing and Inspections
- Closing and Possession
There’s my Dad and our CEO, Brad Devries. Two outstanding men and leaders!
As for me, I was proud to become a new member of Semonin’s 20% club! I have big goals for 2017 and a big thanks for all the love and support from my fabulous clients who have become friends. BTW- I LOVE working with referrals… 😉
I’m not sure if this exactly qualifies for a favorite, as I have yet to actually read the book, but I read a raving review on the book Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Eat Pray Love) and then ordered it yesterday. I’ve talked before about the grip that fear can have over my life and I’m just excited to dive right in.
Please excuse the actual paint job… but a color that I forgot I had – kind of a soft purpley/light grey neutral color. Love the name of this one.. OPI’s “Don’t Bossa Me Around”

On Tuesday, I jumped on the Whole30 bandwagon and so far, so good! If you missed that post, you can catch up here.
On the Whole 30, you cut out added sugar, grains, legumes, dairy, processed foods and alcohol. So Whole 30 is basically eating clean. I’m learning that its really do able (if I can do this anyone can) but does require careful meal planning. I purchased Luna Bars for emergency situations and I’m still craving things like chips and goldfish and whatever the girls eat as snacks after school, but I really haven’t felt hungry. I’m already feeling less bloated and “lighter.” I feel more tired than usual and I’ve woken up with headaches but I think its normal and from the detox. Whole30 strongly discourages weighing yourself but that ain’ttttt happenin. I did take a “before” picture and if there’s significant results, I may get brave and post the pics. I know its only Day 4 but I’m feeling really good about things!
I’ll update more next week, but here’s a few pics of what I’ve been eating on the Whole30…
Scrambled eggs and veggies made with avocado oil and spices and….
… these sauces below are Whole 30 approved! My cousin is the creator and are available on Amazon here. They are soooooooooo yummy.
I was nervous about using coconut milk in place of creamer in my coffee but it actually tastes good!
La Croix sparkling waters are Whole30 approved. So good…
Grilled chicken with dijon mustard, steamed cauliflower with salt and pepper and fruit for lunch…
I’ve been drinking tons of water too. This is infused with fruit.
If you blog, link up and share your favorites- I linked up with several fabulous bloggers here!
Thanks for reading HB today, hoping you have a GREAT weekend! XOXO

Precious baby A. Ohhh I wish I had her in my arms right now!!
Oh those pre Whole 30 days…
I cannot get enough of this sweater. I’m actually wearing it as I type 🙂
Loving my blue top…
… and my off the shoulder black top too.
I’ve also been wearing my Converse a lot lately…
These are my first pair of Converse- and for having high arches, I think they’re pretty comfy. I found them here.
Generally speaking, I consider myself to be a “healthy” person. According to our “industry standards,” My BMI falls into the normal weight range for my gender and height, recent blood work results showed no real red flags or signs of danger, I try to watch what I consume, I strive to eat whole and healthy foods and I clock a decent amount of exercise daily. My goal for this year is to become the best version of myself in all areas of life- and perhaps the reason behind today’s post too.
Anywho, several months ago I was cozied up on the couch reading a book to my niece and simultaneously running my fingers through my hair when I felt several spots on my scalp that should have hair!! Umm. I took several photos of these spots and became increasingly alarmed at what I seeing. (I’ll spare you the photos) I want to say that I brushed this discovery off and reduced it to stress, not a big deal, etc but after googling every possible scenario of all the reasons why one might start losing hair… I promptly shut all those web MD experts down and called my primary care physician (who ordered said blood work). Apparently, losing hair as “reason for visit” was not the usual around there and I was advised to cut my hair to a shorter style, use a special shampoo and avoid using hair dryers and hot tools for the next few months or so and to see a dermatologist if it worsens.
I requested a second opinion on the matter- as I needed to know WHY this was happening and if it was somewhat of a normal occurrence that people don’t typically discuss!?
Eventually, I was prescribed to a month of antibiotics and after that month came and went, my hair started to show signs of re growth.
Sooooo… what’s the point here, you ask!? I mean, you’re prob all “Jill… GIT. You had an issue, it was solved with antibiotics, the doctor called it a fancy name (alopecia areata) and all was well…”
(BTW, if you’re wondering, by definition, Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease where your immune system attacks healthy hair follicles)
Well, because this is not just about hair falling out. In the midst of all this, I began to feel sort of jet lagged. In other words- just an all around feeling of “blah.” Brain fog, fatigue, irritable at times, headaches, just… something felt a little off. (Off enough for me to notice that something felt off!!) For a while, I blamed travel and side effects from month long antibiotics.
So, do tell me- have you done the Whole 30? Any tips!? Am I the last to embark on this!? Is it really life changing!? So many questions…
I ordered this book below…
Check out the Whole30 book here
I’ll post and share weekly updates and mayyyybe a pretty pic of a meal every now and then. If you have questions, need help- or just want to chat- please let me know! There are so many things that are simply out of our control, but I realize I’m not getting younger and being proactive about my health and diet is one thing that I can change today to help become a better version than I was yesterday.
I’m excited to link up with sone of my very favorite bloggers today!
Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!
This was a panoramic I took at the top of Pinel Island
|we read the note on the plane… 🙂 PS- a fabulous client of mine gave me a mani/pedi gift certificate- and I used it before our trip. My nails and toes are OPI’s “go with the lava flow” (shellac) and I was obsessed. It was a golden / coral sparkly color and felt “beachy.”
My nail polish color here.
I read this book and I will most likely never forget it. An excellent read- high recommend. Find it here.
This area was considered “downtown” St Martin and it was truly breathtaking. We decided that after our luggage wasn’t going to be there… a beverage was necessary 🙂
We walked up and down the streets near our resort and purchased white tops.. #matchingcouple
I took this selfie after we hiked up to the top of Pinel Island. Pinel Island is about an 8 min ferry ride from St Martin- and so worth it. The views were gorgeous.
|Loft V Neck Sweater
(This color is GORGEOUS in person!!) Under $20! If you’re a KY CATS fan… here’s your game day top 🙂
(This fits TTS but I sized up for longer length. I have a long torso and like my tops to fit longer) I’ll save this top for a date night or night out.
(I sized up- mostly because it was the last size avail in the store:) I love the extra roominess!!)
Its so nice to be BACK!
Seeing that my last post was written on December 16, 2016, it has been almost exactly ONE MONTH since I’ve been here. OOPS!!!!!!!!! Not starting 2017 off on the best foot… but I’m going to do my best to GIT and turn this tardy bus around… #couldsomeoneholdmeaccountable #butbetterlatethannever #happybelatedNewYear
As a small token of my appreciation.. make sure to read all the way to the bottom of this post because you’ll want to enter your name in the Rafflecopter for a chance to win a $100 Starbucks gift card! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Love and appreciate you all!!!! (You may need a strong jolt of caffeine if my future posts are anything like this….)
SOOOO…. it was the last Friday before winter break before I signed off for an entire month, and I really reallyyyyyyy hope that span of time does not happen again!!!
WHERE in the world have I been hiding out, you ask?
Well, in a nutshell, we relaxed over winter break, celebrated Christmas and New Years and then Jason and I went off the grid for a week to the island of St Martin. We arrived home in time to have lunch with the girls at school and hit up Costco and quickly settled back into the daily grind of school mornings and work and ALLLL the LAUNDRY!!!
It all looked something like this: (Please be prepared… here’s about a months worth of photos in one blog post… )
Winter break days…
We kicked off the break with classroom parties…
We paid a visit to our favorite neighborhood art studio…
Happiest Birthday to MEG!!!
Love these LADIES!!
LiLi hosted a holiday girls night and slumber party with the grands and we decided to make it an annual tradition since they LOVED IT and didn’t want to leave. I can’t blame them- LiLi’s house is the best 🙂 #itwashardmovingoutofherhouse
A whole lotta fun with LiLi 🙂
We spent one day stuffing overpriced bears at the local Build A Bear..
One very special night… Santa brought Sophia and her brothers A KITTY!!! I’ve never seen a kid love cats the way Sophia does. She’s been obsessed since the day she discovered a kitty in its cage at the Humane Society. She named her new kitten “Peanut Butter” and while I’ve never been a cat person, he is seriously the cutest little thing and I hear that he has the friendliest demeanor…
Sophia’s step mama sent me these photos.. just precious.
Welcome to the family, Peanut Butter!
My Dad’s birthday is on Dec 23 and we celebrated at one of his favorite steakhouses…
Happiest Birthday DAD!!! I love you forever n ever…
We had so much fun celebrating the Best Dad! Merry Christmas Adam too!
One of the girls favorite things is sleeping in our room on the weekends. I cherish these sweet memories…
We celebrated Christmas Eve at Jason’s Mom’s house – and I HAVE NOT ONE PHOTO FROM THAT NIGHT!!! UGHHHH!! Ooops. Nana Debbie spoils the girls and while I have no photo memories.. we had a wonderful time.
Later that night, we set out milk, carrots and cookies…
Merry Christmas 2016!
Ahhhh. The best winter white cosmo out there 🙂
It was a very merry Christmas. We are so very blessed.
On NYE, We cozied up at home and watched the countdown from the couch…
I love this pic. My sweet girls.
Every year, we drive out to Jason’s Aunt Nancy’s “underground” home and celebrate the New Year…
That’s Sophia from the roof of Aunt Nancy’s. Their home is underground and extremely energy efficient 🙂
Happy 2017 from all of us to you!
Thanks for reading HB, friends! I’ll save our photos from our beach trip for another post. 🙂
Cheers to a new year and fresh start! XOXO
