Happy Wednesday gals!
Today, I’m linking up with several fabulous bloggers for their Working it Wednesday series. The series is all about how we’re working it in certain areas of our life (and then ask you to share your advice/tips/tricks on the subject too). Sounds fun, right!? I’ll share a few tips and then you share yours too 🙂
Today’s topic is how we transition our wardrobe from Summer to Fall.
I thought the timing was great for this- because the weather in Kentucky has been much cooler and it just “feels” like Fall around these parts 🙂 I started pulling Fall decorations from my basement and added a few new pieces in that I’ll share soon 🙂
Ok- I’m going to keep things fairly simple here:
- I really don’t stress too much over transitioning my wardrobe from Summer to Fall. Basically, one half of my closet is filled with Summer items and the other half with Fall/Winter things.
- The thought of moving my clothing from one spot to another each season seems daunting. Like wayyyy too much work- and I wear many basic items for all seasons too. I like knowing that a white Summer tank is with my Summer things but I can easily grab and throw on during the Fall/Winter months if needed. During the awkward “not Summer anymore but not quite sweaters and boots” I typically just pull from both sides and wing until the weather is truly cold. Does that make sense?
Over the Summer months- I’ve loved easy basics like white denim, off the shoulder tops, flip flops and wedges. As far as my Fall basics, I tend to just switch out my white jeans for black or denim and my flip flops for booties. Many of my tanks transition well into Fall under a denim jacket or cardigan and when the weather really drops- I’ll switch Summer tops for long sleeved button downs/tunics etc and call it day. If you’ve read here for any amount of time- you have probably seen these photos before, but to recap a few basics that transition right into Fall:
Just throw on a denim jacket with black jeans and booties and you’re dressed for chilly weather. LOVE a great sweater tank– flattering and comfy 🙂 Mine is from Loft and on sale here. I’ve got my eye on this cream colored sweater and this neutral sweater tank. Neutral sleeveless sweaters pair so well with colored denim and denim jackets too 🙂 Loft currently has several adorable sleeveless sweaters on sale- scroll and click on them below:
I have worn the heck out of my black tunic– so much so that I purchased the pink too. Because is there anything easier to throw on than a black tunic and jeans?!?! I’ve dressed it up, dressed it down and worn around the house with jammie bottoms too. I seriously cannot get enough. I really hope that its not sold out by the time I hit publish on this post. Find the black here and pink here. (These tunics run LARGE!! Size down!)
…. for the “its kind of cold-ish outside” days… throw on a tunic with cute sleeves and maybe even longer boots. I bought this tunic dress over the Summer knowing that I could wear well into Fall and many sizes are still avail! There’s also a pink option that is adorable but a little more Summery.
… and finally… a tried and true casual outfit that every single closet needs:
… a great fitting button down (I’ve tried many styles and brands… J Crew (Factory) makes some of my favorites. They are soft, fit TTS and the collar does well in the wash) great fitting jeans (my sister recommened I try these from J Crew- and holy moly. They feel like leggings. AHHHmazing. Jeans, a puffer vest and scarf. LOVE.
Well, there you have it friends. Just a few of my tried and true Summer to Fall transition tips (although- I’m not even sure I would call them tips. I just really try to be conscious when I’m purchasing wardrobe basics- a good pair of jeans can be worn all year round- and I’ll invest in denim jackets/vests/faux fur etc that won’t be going out of style anytime soon. I rarely ever make full priced purchases (seriously- like never) and try to keep tabs on my inventory- especially the items that are seasonal and then the ones that transition to more than one season 🙂
Thanks for reading today friends! What am I missing!? Comment with all the advice you have 🙂 XO
